Site Redesigns

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Thinking about redesigning your website? Talk to us!

We can talk through where things are with our new Core Publisher CMS, how that might affect your timeline (or not), and take you through our current design specs, your thoughts, etc.

We’re always happy to review your wire frames or mock ups for compatibility with our systems, and give as much (or as little) aesthetic feedback as you like.

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Congratulations to KPLU! KPLU, a Core Publisher pilot station, has a new site!

While their Core Publisher site has been live as their news section for a few months, “The River”, is now their new home page, putting it front and center to further test the idea of building audience through online news.

2010 in Review, Part III

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

And last, but certainly not least…Core Publisher. It really has been an exciting year for us. This year, we underwent some soul-searching and strategy work that resulted in a shift in our vision. In addition to developing and maintaining a technology and services architecture that supports public media online, we’re also expanding our mission to focus on helping stations build online audience.

Nine months ago we announced the launch of Core Publisher, a new way to build websites and manage your digital content using open source technology.  We took applications for stations to be part of the development process in March and by June, had announced six pilot stations.

From the decision to use Drupal to the addition of editorial training and staff to the launch of the first Core pilot station (Innovation Trail) to the recent launch of all the core pilot news stations, the rivers of news are flowing steadily!

WSPR, Digital News Day

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Are you heading to WSPR in Las Vegas? Meet some of the star members of the PI team — Joe Orlando, Phil Johnson, Ki-Min Sung and Keith Hopper.

The conference is jam-packed with valuable sessions on diversity, growing the audience, increasing donations, and the landscape of Public Media in the future.

  • Joe will be roaming the conference, please say hi.
  • On Friday, 11/5, 1:45pm: Phil Johnson will talk about SX and share some overall streaming stats.

And, as at ERPM, stations can participate in the well-received Digital News Day on Nov 6th, and learn about best practices in digital news delivery. The Knight Digital Media Center partnered with NPR and recently hosted a “Future of Local News and Public Media” summit for management teams of stations participating in the PI Core Pilot project. We have adapted the agenda to offer a one-day summit following both conferences.

ERPM, WSPR, Digital News Day

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Are you heading to ERPM in Atlanta or WSPR in Las Vegas? Meet some of the star members of the PI team — Joe Orlando, Phil Johnson, Ki-Min Sung and Keith Hopper.

Both conferences are jam-packed with valuable sessions on diversity, growing the audience, increasing donations, and the landscape of Public Media in the future.

And, at both ERPM and WSPR, stations can participate in Digital News Day, and learn about best practices in digital news delivery. The Knight Digital Media Center partnered with NPR for several strategies and skills training sessions over the past year, and recently hosted a “Future of Local news and Public Media” summit for management teams of stations participating in the PI Core Pilot project. We have adapted the agenda to offer a one-day summit following both conferences.

PI’s own Keith Hopper and Ki-Min Sung will lead sessions on extending this new model to general news, see details here: http://core.publicinteractive.com/2010/10/digital-news-day-at-erpm/

The Future of P.I. Webinar Video and Core Publisher Blog

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

We’d like to thank all the stations who participated in March 4th’s webinar on the Future of Public Interactive and the new Core Publisher Pilot project.  Over 260 stations registered, and we wished we had more time to answer your questions.

If you missed it, you can replay the webinar on the Core Publisher Blog. You’ll find application details and more info as well.

This is a great opportunity to grow your station’s digital presence AND be part of a service that will support public media stations for years to come. Please share this news with your programming and digital staff and let us know if you have any questions. We’re eager for stations of ALL sizes and formats to apply, and we hope you consider it.  Applications are due March 18th, so don’t delay!
