CPB Selects Public Interactive to Report Music Streaming to SoundExchange

CPB has selected NPR’s newest division, Public Interactive, to take on the central role in collecting and reporting public radio music streaming information to the SoundExchange, the performance rights organization that collects and distributes royalties to artists and copyright owners.

    Hi folks,

    KRFC Fort Collins currently utilizes Spinitron as a playlist generator. The station is NOT computer based, so there’s no way to automatically “read” what’s playing. How will the PI initiative affect stations like KFRC, KAFM, and KVNF all in Colorado that are currently using Spinitron?

    I am one of three administrators of the Spinitron system for KRFC, and one of the admins for KAFM in Grand Junction CO.

    Hi Chris,

    I’m PI’s project manager for the SoundExchange reporting initiative.

    PI is already talking to Spinitron about integrating their existing SoundExchange reporting capabilities with PI’s SX reporting. It looks like PI will be able to get playlist logs directly from Spinitron for stations such as yours.

    However, PI will still need to collect guide information and streaming logs from your station in order to calculate aggregate tuning hours for each reporting period. We will be contacting you at the appropriate time to discuss how we can get those log files.

    In the meantime, please be sure – if you haven’t already – to register with the CPB and accept the SX agreement, then register with PI so we have all of your relevant contact and stream info.
